Thursday night in Westwood, the Patriots played host to their cross town rival Ishpeming Hemitites in Girls Mid-Pen Basketball action. Westwood Head Coach Tom Hammer told 103.3 The Country Extreme Play-by-Play announcer Joe Duckworth in the pregame that the key to the game is solid defense against Ishpeming and let the scoring come naturally.

Westwood started off the game with an unanswered 7 point run to jump out to an early lead, but Ishpeming started their game pressuring the ball underneath, but Westwood continued to hold onto the lead through the 1st quarter with Ishpeming never getting closer than 6 points throughout the opener, as the Patriots continued to pull away to take a 17-5 lead at the end of the quarter. The Patriots continued to pull away in the 2nd quarter with strong offensive rebounds and solid shooting from the free throw line, making 25-13 halfway through the 2nd for Westwood.  Ishpeming continued to fight for good shots but got into some foul trouble, sending the Patriots to the charity stripe and advancing their lead to 20 points, taking a 36-16 lead into the locker room at the half.

Ishpeming came out of the locker room for the 2nd half of the game trying to pressure Westwood down deep but had limited success as the Hemitites struggled to stay close in the 3rd quarter, but the Patriots continued to pull away to lead Ishpeming 51-36 after the 3rd quarter. Westwood continued to control the rebounds and the ball in the 4th quarter, and made most of their free-throw down the stretch to come away with the win by a final of 63-52.
